Breakfast matters – no excuses
These results are shocking! 40% of Canadians regulartly skip breakfast and most of them attribute that fact to not having enough time and a number of folks believe that not having breakfast may help them lose weight.
Why is this so wrong?
If you are trying to lose weight then skipping breakfast sends the wrong signal to your body that it probably needs to preserve energy; hence your metabolism may slow down as a result. Your body is like a car and as such it needs fuel. The breakfast is the fuel to make it start and go.
The “no time” excuse… Oh yeah, the “if only I had time” conundrum! Look, I think that one has to make a decision about what is and what is not important to them. If your health is important to you, then you will “make” the time.
I will share with you some quick ideas about breakfasts that won’t take you more than 5 minutes.
– leftovers are your friends when it comes to easy breakfasts
Some people pack their leftovers for lunch while some save it for the next day or quite frankly some people just waste it as it never gets eaten again. Letfover quinoa from the day before?
You can just warm it up or decide if you want it as a savoury breakfast or a sweet one. If you cooked it plain the day before that will make the conversion either way much easier.
To make a sweet dish just add some sweet spices (nutmeg, cinnamon, ginger powder) and a sweetener if necessary. Mix with any kind of milk or not. Et voila!. You basically just need enough time to heat this up. I am no fan of a microwave but if that will get you eating breakfast, just throw it all in the microwave. Total prep time would be 2 minutes.
Leftover Kale? I like steaming a bunch of kale and keep them on hand in the fridge. So, use leftover kale to add on top of high quality toast to make a kale bruschetta or just eat as is. Kale is very rich in vitamins such as K and A and a host of other minerals. To round out this breakfast further you can eat a handful of almonds that would offer you protein, calcium and good fat. Steamed kale can be eaten warm or cold. Again, this takes no time.
